Britt WhitmireBritt Whitmire

Britt is a North Carolina native who has spent his entire career in the Tarheel State (or The Old North State for you Dookies). Britt was born and raised in Lake Toxaway (in Transylvania County), where most of his family still resides. Britt started working in radio when he was sixteen at WPNF in Brevard. Britt played jazz records before being promoted to the key afternnon drive slot. He would drive his 1979 Buick Regal (Turbo!) pell-mell from Brevard High School to the station every day when the 3 o'clock bell sounded.

After graduation, Britt headed to UNCG, where he spent a year at the campus station (WUAG) before he got a part-time job at an honest-to-God rock station, where he met Brad Krantz. Brad tolerated Britt's hanging around after the overnight show and the two forged a friendship that has lasted for 15 years.

After getting his BA from UNCG, Britt headed to Camp Lejeune where he hosted afternoons at hard-rockin' WXQR (the rock 'n' roll animal). Britt was promoted to mornings about nine months after he arrived, replacing a host who had been at the station for more than a quarter of a century.

After the station was sold, Britt headed up the coast to WRHT in Morehead City where he did overnights for a brief time before being added to the morning crew. He held court for Top 40 listeners in Eastern North Carolina until 1999 when he went to do mornings in Wilmington at "Jammin' 99.9". Britt finished up the year by signing on for news/co-host/producer duties on the popular "Murphy in the Morning Show" on WKZL, where he would stay for three and a half years.

Through all his adventures, Britt always kept in touch with Brad, doing character voices on various stations where Brad worked and even pulling off the scam that helped get Brad the job in Charlotte. All the while, the two friends always looked for the right opportunity where they could work together ank kick butt in the Triad. That opportunity came in spring 2004, when Curtis Media decided to put a news/talk format on their 101.1 FM frequency. This is a dream come true for Britt and he is happier now than he has been in a long, long time.

Britt currently resides in Browns Summit with his Pit Bull Terrier, Heidi. When he isn't working, he enjoys cooking, shopping for watches, movies, and reading. He is an absolute freak for Costco, DirecTV, and Invicta watches. He also enjoys wrestling, but he knows it's fake, so you don't have to mention that.
