Awards and Recognition
Jim Longworth, host and producer of Triad Today, is a long time champion of
television as a vehicle for public service.
In the 1970's, Longworth participated in the Triad's first live coverage of
an area-wide blood drive, and produced numerous documentaries and specials
for WFMY-TV, including "So You Think You Know the Constitution", an
educational tribute during our bicentennial year.
In the 1980's, while in Virginia, he raised millions of dollars for the
Muscular Dystrophy Association, and was recognized by the National Institutes of
Health for a pilot series on High Blood Pressure.
In the 1990's, Longworth directed media campaigns which gained passage of
the nation's first handgun legislation, and brought awareness to the problems
of animal abuse.
And, in the new millennium, he created Triad Today, Piedmont North Carolina's
only locally-produced public affairs talk show on commercial television.
Since then, Triad Today has been recognized by Congress, and has received the
Spectrum of Democracy Award from the North Carolina Center for Voter
Education. Longworth was also named as one of Biz Life Magazine's "Movers and
Shakers" for 2006.
