"Scathing Attacks"
November 10th / 12th, 2006

I've just about had it with our local newspapers, and here's why. Take a look at the headline in Wednesday's Greensboro News & Record, "Scathing Attacks Fail to Halt Miller".

Sure Vernon Robinson's TV ads against Brad Miller were outrageous and vicious, but not once did they defame Miller's character. But four years ago, Miller did just that to Carolyn Gant when he broadcast lies about her divorce. The News & Record didn't care what Miller did to Ms Grant, but they were quick to defend him against Vernon. The paper suffers from selective memory and hypocrisy.

And then there's the Winston-Salem Journal whose cowardly editorial Board and headline writers defamed me and Virginia Foxx for not letting them control a debate.
But the Journal's worst offense was mischaracterizing Dave Plyler's contributions to the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners.

Dave has been the voice of reason on that Board, using his moderate stances to effect positive change and fiscal responsibility. But no matter. The Journal was on a mission to elect Democrats at all cost.

The good news is that the Journal's readership is falling off and their sphere of influence is falling with it.

I urge the News & Record and the Journal to stop trying to shape the news, and just stick to reporting it. Otherwise, more and more voters may elect to go elsewhere for their news.
