"Impeachment Could Have Saved GOP"

In one of his many rants against me, Congressman Brad Miller said that I overestimated my importance. I disagree, but the fact is if Republican leaders in Washington had listened to me last year when I began calling for the impeachment of George Bush, they could have spared themselves the agony of defeat in last week's election.

When the public was finally told that Saddam Hussein possessed no weapons of mss destruction, many of us assumed that Bush would pull out of Iraq and apologize for his bonehead invasion. We were wrong.

Instead, Bush stayed the course and refused to admit his mistake. The result has been the needless deaths of 3,000 U.S. soldiers, 80% of whom were killed after the invasion, and during so-called reconstruction.

Had the GOP worked with Democrats to impeach Bush for his reckless actions, then voters would not have revolted against Republican candidates in the mid term election. Yes, it's true that Mark Foley's sexual emails and George Allen's racial slurs might still have happened, but a CNN poll shows that voters were most influenced by their dissatisfaction with Bush and with his refusal to end the War. It was those 59% of Americans who handed control of the House and Senate to the Democrats, and I can't blame them.

And so, we are left with a lame-duck President and a skewed system of checks and balances that has gridlock written all over it. Bush is like the trouble maker in grade school who starts a ruckus, causes people to get hurt, and manages to get off scott-free while others catch the heat for his behavior. I wonder how many out-of-work Republicans would vote for impeachment now.
